Position Summary

The Power Infrastructure Subject Matter Expert (SME) serves as the primary technical authority for all electrical power generation and distribution systems within a mission-critical data center environment. Reporting to the Data Center Manager, this role ensures the reliability, safety, and performance of grid, generator, and distribution systems across multiple facilities. The SME provides expert technical guidance to Salute’s operations and engineering teams, drives continuous improvement initiatives, and partners closely with clients to deliver safe, compliant, and efficient power infrastructure operations.

This is an on-site position located in Afton, TX, with relocation assistance available.

Salary: $122,004 - $152,505

Responsibilities

Technical Expertise & Program Leadership

  • Serve as the primary subject matter expert for all electrical power distribution, generation, and control systems across Salute-supported facilities.
  • Oversee planned and unplanned maintenance for generators, switchgear, transformers, fuel systems, and electrical distribution equipment.
  • Support cross-functional project teams with electrical subject matter expertise, including commissioning, upgrades, and retrofits.
  • Interface with utility providers to coordinate interconnection requirements, power quality monitoring, and load coordination.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex power faults, including breaker coordination, synchronization, load balancing, and protection settings.
  • Lead and manage power system design and optimization projects from planning through implementation.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, controls, and operations teams to ensure integrated system performance and operational reliability.
  • Advise customers on strategies to improve energy efficiency, system uptime, and asset longevity.

Compliance, Quality, & Continuous Improvement

  • Review and approve commissioning plans, electrical testing procedures, and system documentation to ensure alignment with OEM and industry standards.
  • Provide QA/QC oversight for new installations, modifications, and service work, ensuring adherence to NFPA 70E, NEC, OSHA, and NESC standards.
  • Conduct internal audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify deficiencies and drive corrective actions.
  • Maintain documentation of system configurations, capacity models, and incident investigations for trend analysis and continuous improvement.
  • Support root cause analysis (RCA) for power-related incidents and collaborate with client engineering teams to implement corrective measures.
  • Evaluate and recommend new tools, technologies, and maintenance methodologies that enhance system safety and reliability.
  • Coordinate with project management and OEM service providers to implement lifecycle extension strategies and performance improvements.

Training, Collaboration, & Stakeholder Support

  • Deliver technical training and mentorship to Salute and client teams on generator operations, switchgear safety, load management, and emergency procedures.
  • Develop and distribute training materials to promote best practices in power system operations and preventive maintenance.
  • Collaborate with client representatives and partner teams to align electrical operations with customer-specific protocols and compliance programs.
  • Participate in client governance, performance review, and operational readiness meetings to maintain transparency and alignment on metrics.
  • Provide ongoing mentorship to site engineers and technicians to strengthen electrical competency and operational awareness.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical field required; an advanced degree or equivalent professional experience preferred.
  • 7–10 years of progressively responsible experience with electrical distribution systems, power generation, or commissioning in mission-critical or utility-scale environments.
  • Strong understanding of low, medium, and high-voltage power systems, generators, and protective relays.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret electrical single-line diagrams, schematics, and protection coordination studies.
  • Proficiency with commissioning plans, SOPs, MOPs, and EOPs development and execution.
  • Knowledge of NFPA 70E, NEC, OSHA, NESC, and EPA Tier 4 standards.
  • Experience with SCADA, PLCs, and automated control or monitoring systems.
  • Familiarity with energy storage, battery backup, and renewable integration systems is preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills for evaluating system performance, identifying optimization opportunities, and resolving complex technical challenges.
  • Experience with QA/QC oversight, vendor coordination, and lifecycle management.
  • Military, utility, or field-engineering background in prime power or power generation is a plus.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent credentials are preferred.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and move safely within operational and mechanical areas during inspections or maintenance activities.
