Remote hands is the general name for a service that allows customers to delegate IT management and maintenance tasks within a colocation facility to specialized technicians. This allows the customer to focus on internal tasks within their own organization and prevents them from having to send their own staff to colocation facilities around the world. Although it varies by customer, a remote hands service generally covers a wide range of tasks. As a Jr Remote Hands Technician you are available 24x7 to deploy, maintain and troubleshoot customer equipment. Your tasks include, but not limited to the following:
Requirements
- Equipment Rack and Stack
- Cable, terminate, and dress fiber or copper network cabling
- Assist with the diagnosis of hardware and software
- Power cycling of customer equipment
- Perform cabinet/cage audits
- Blade/Card, Memory, Hard Drive, and Transceiver installations or removal
- Testing and troubleshooting of copper and fiber optic circuits
- Perform migrations of equipment, power, or networking devices
- Shipping and Receiving of packages
- Provide timely customer and internal updates
- Perform and document inventory verification/counts.
- Perform infrastructure builds
- Maintain overall Data Center cleanliness and appearance
Qualifications
- High school diploma or College Degree
- Relevant experience in Telecommunications or Data Center related field
- Ability to identify basic parts of network equipment – SFPs, line cards, chassis
- Ability to identify basic parts of servers – memory, network card, hard drives, etc.
- Experience with identifying port locations for specific device manufacturers (Cisco, Arista, Juniper)
- Knowledge of structured cabling systems using cCat5, Cat6, multi-mode and single-mode fiber
- Familiarity with both power and communications cabling standards
- Experience configuring and using cable testers for both fiber and copper to troubleshoot cabling issues
- Exhibit good professional business communication and interpersonal skills
- Endowed with effective organizational skills and team experience
- Pays attention to detail and cleanliness
- Ability to work flexible shift schedules (Monday to Friday and on-call)
- A NEN3140 LV certification (Or willing to obtain one)
- A CCNA certification (Or willing to obtain one)
