Salary: $117,000.00 - $122,000.00 (Based on qualifications)
Schedule: 6am-2:30pm M-F

Critical Facilities Engineering Manager
Position Summary
The Critical Facilities Engineering Manager serves as the senior technical authority responsible for overseeing all engineering operations across one or more data center facilities. Reporting to the Data Center Manager, this role leads a team of facility engineers and ensures the safe, compliant and efficient operation of all mission-critical infrastructure. The Critical Facilities Engineering Manager is accountable for the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of site-specific SOPs, MOPs, and EOPs, and ensures all procedures align with Salute’s standards for reliability, safety, and performance. This role demands a strategic thinker with deep technical expertise and proven leadership capabilities in high-availability environments.
Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise engineering operations across assigned data center sites, ensuring alignment with Salute’s operational protocols and compliance standards.
- Oversee the execution and refinement of SOPs, MOPs, and EOPs, including training and implementation across the engineering team.
- Manage all aspects of mission-critical infrastructure, including electrical distribution systems, UPS (static and rotary), HVAC, chillers, emergency generators, fire/life safety, and monitoring systems.
- Coordinate and execute planned and emergency maintenance activities, ensuring minimal risk and maximum uptime.
- Conduct root cause analysis following incidents and produce executive summaries for internal and customer-facing reporting.
- Monitor and respond to BMS alarms, analyze trends, and escalate issues per Salute’s incident management framework.
- Utilize CMMS for work order creation, tracking, and closure, ensuring operational transparency and accountability.
- Supervise MEP construction and commissioning activities, validating system design, installation, and documentation.
- Develop and manage the engineering team, enforcing adherence to maintenance schedules, labor efficiency, and cost control.
- Lead high-risk operational walk-throughs and serve as a technical resource for complex facility issues.
- Track operational metrics and trends to inform strategic decisions and senior management oversight.
- Identify and implement process improvements that enhance operational and financial performance.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and capital planning in collaboration with Real Estate Management.
- Oversee general facility services (e.g., janitorial, landscaping, snow removal) to ensure contract compliance.
- Maintain compliance with OSHA, national electrical codes, and Salute’s Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety standards.
- Manage spare parts inventory and ensure availability of critical maintenance materials.
- Support accreditation initiatives (SSAE16, SOC2, ISO 27001) and ensure readiness for audits.
- Coordinate with Critical Facilities Lead to ensure site specific Training and Job Shadowing of Critical Facilites Engineer I, II and III are in place and that proper development of these roles is monitored.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 7-9 years of experience in data center operations or related engineering fields, with leadership experience in mission-critical environments.
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering preferred.
- Proven expertise in commissioning, operating, and maintaining complex infrastructure systems.
- Strong understanding of redundancy configurations (N+1, 2N, ATS/STS) and associated risk mitigation.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting MEP drawings and structured cabling standards.
- Experience in colocation operations, including cage, rack, cable, and power infrastructure deployment (preferred).
- Familiarity with PLC systems, DCIM platforms, CMMS, and power metering technologies.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with project management and design tools.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams, conduct training, and manage vendor relationships.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and organizational skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment, up to 40lbs.
- Ability to climb ladders and multiple flights of stairs to access elevated equipment
- Ability to stand for long periods of time in various work environments
- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and reach for equipment related tasks
- Basic physical fitness to respond quickly to emergency situations and navigate areas quickly
- Ability to move quickly and efficiently withing various work environments to troubleshoot issues or respond to emergencies.
- Good hand-eye coordination and dexterity for working with small components and connectors
- Clear vision, with or without correction, to perform tasks requiring attention to detail and precision while wearing safety glasses
- Ability to differentiate between color-coded warning signs, labels, and cables
- Ability to work in environments with a wide variety temperature inside a facility
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including extreme temperatures, rain, or snow
- Capability to work in environments with elevated noise levels while wearing hearing protection
- Possession of a valid driver’s license for work-related travel, as required
Site Location: We operate a 24-hour facility where work hours (shifts) are assigned as needed to ensure job functions are performed satisfactorily, compliance is maintained, and the company operates efficiently. Certain positions, as specified in your offer letter, may require working irregular hours, such as nights, weekends, overtime, alternating shifts, and under various conditions, including outdoor work during extreme weather or in hazardous environments.
