Salary: 50k CAD/yr

Hours: Monday - Friday (Normal Business hours)

Position Title: HR Business Partner - Payroll Specialist

The HR Business Partner - Payroll Specialist is responsible for overseeing and ensuring the accuracy of employee payroll data, including time and labor audits, federal, and local tax deductions, social security, benefits, and garnishments. They assist with payroll account balancing, address employee inquiries related to paychecks, deductions, and leave accruals, and process garnishments. The role involves setting up tax accounts in new locations, researching payroll discrepancies, and ensuring compliance with legal tax requirements. Additionally, the position involves handling employee inquiries, reviewing policies for compliance, supporting HR programs, and assisting with HR guidance and metrics analysis. The specialist also manages PTO balances for Canadian employees, enters new hires into systems, and completes other tasks as assigned.

Responsibilities:

  • Audit employee time and labor data submitted by various offices and interact with supervisors as required to verify data and resolve discrepancies
  • Establish and ensure accuracy of federal, and local taxes, social security contributions, employee benefit contributions, fringe benefits, garnishments and other deductions of employee paychecks
  • Assist with balancing of payroll accounts by resolving payroll discrepancies
  • Analyze and respond to inquiries from employees regarding paycheck amounts, deductions, leave accruals, direct deposit, and other concerns
  • Processes garnishments and communicate garnishment information to all parties
  • Research and gather required documents to set up required tax accounts in new locations where companies operate. Research payroll tax payments and data discrepancies with federal and local agencies, and work with tax agencies as well as internal staff for resolution
  • Work with payroll system to ensure that the company is in compliance with federal and local legal requirements, unemployment tax and local city/territory accounts as necessary. Responsible for monitoring and completing tax filings as necessary.
  • Assists in handling employment-related inquiries from employes and supervisors
  • Reviews policies and procedures to maintain compliance
  • Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs
  • Assists in providing HR policy guidance and interpretation
  • Assists in analyzing trends and metrics in partnership with the HR group to develop solutions, programs and policies
  • Maintaining accurate PTO balances for all Canadian EE (this currently resides in EZ Labor)
  • Entering in new employees into WFN, Team Pay and EZ Labor
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor/management

Desired Experiences/Skills:

  • A minimum of 3+ years Canada payroll processing experience with proficiency in parity committees premiums and reporting.
  • An associate or bachelor's degree in accounting or a related financial field
  • Must have strong experience with ADP (WFN) software and proficiency in MS Office programs (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Experience with Team Pay, EZ Labor and SF Field Services (or similar time tracking tools)
  • Experience with payroll tax issues
  • Proven ability to complete work accurately and with attention to detail
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks under tight deadlines effectively
  • Strong and proven collaboration skills
