Junior Data Center Engineer – Amsterdam, Netherlands - 12 month FTC contract initially

Salute is looking for a motivated Junior Data Center Facilities Engineer to join our team in Amsterdam. This is an entry-level opportunity for someone with a technical background who’s eager to build a career in critical infrastructure and learn how data centers operate from the ground up.

At Salute, you’ll work alongside experienced engineers to support the day-to-day operation of our data center, learning how to maintain the systems that keep mission-critical environments running. If you enjoy working with electrical and mechanical systems, and want hands-on experience in a fast-growing industry, this role is for you.

How we operate:

In many entry-level roles, you’re given repetitive tasks with limited exposure to the bigger picture. You might follow instructions without fully understanding how systems connect or why certain procedures matter.

At Salute, we take a different approach. From day one, you’ll be part of the team, supporting real operations while learning how all aspects of the data center work together. You’ll assist with routine checks and maintenance, but also gain exposure to troubleshooting, system monitoring, and incident response.

You won’t be expected to know everything—but you will be expected to learn, ask questions, and gradually take on more responsibility as your confidence grows. Our goal is to develop you into a well-rounded engineer who understands both the “how” and the “why” behind data center operations.

This role will be a great fit if you like:

- Learning by doing and gaining hands-on experience with electrical and mechanical systems

- Working in a collaborative team environment where your work directly impacts operations

- Being involved in a variety of tasks rather than doing the same thing every day

- Following structured procedures while building confidence to handle issues independently

- Developing technical skills that are highly valued across the data center industry

The role may not be a fit if:

- You are primarily interested in software, IT, or coding roles and prefer working on screens rather than physical systems

- You prefer purely theoretical or classroom-based work

- You are uncomfortable following strict procedures or handling hands-on technical tasks

- You prefer working independently without guidance or collaboration

On a regular basis you will:

- Assist in monitoring and maintaining electrical and mechanical systems

- Support preventative maintenance tasks under supervision

- Help respond to basic alarms and system issues

- Carry out routine inspections of equipment and facilities

- Maintain a clean and safe working environment in technical areas

- Assist with tracking work orders and updating tickets

- Learn and follow operational procedures (SOPs, MOPs, EOPs)

- Support site walks and basic system checks

- Work closely with team members and contractors on daily activities

Skills and experience you will bring:

- Basic technical education (electrical, mechanical, HVAC, or similar)

- Strong interest in working with hands-on systems in a critical environment

- Willingness to learn and develop new technical skills

- Good attention to detail and problem-solving mindset

- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team

- Basic computer skills (ticketing systems are a plus, not required)

- Good communication skills in English

Nice to have (not required):

- Internship, apprenticeship, or hands-on technical experience

- Basic understanding of electrical or mechanical systems

- Exposure to facilities maintenance or industrial environments

What you’ll gain:

- Hands-on training in a fast-growing, high-demand industry

- Mentorship from experienced data center engineers

- Exposure to critical systems such as power, cooling, and automation

- Clear career progression opportunities within the company

The interview process:

At Salute, we want to understand your potential as much as your experience. We’re interested in how you learn, solve problems, and work within a team.

Our process typically includes an initial call with Talent Acquisition, followed by an interview with the hiring manager, and a final stage discussion with the wider team or client. We aim to keep the process straightforward and aligned with your availability.
