As we continue to grow, we are seeking a dynamic and experienced Data Center Facilities Engineer to join our team and drive our relationships with hyperscale clients to new heights.
The Facilities Engineer is responsible for ensuring that all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center is operating at peak efficiency. This involves both planned preventative maintenance of equipment, daily corrective work, and emergency response to emergent issues.
The Facilities Engineer serves as a technical resource reporting to the Data Center Site Manager and third-party vendors. Data center equipment that supports mission-critical servers must maintain better than 99.999% uptime. This equipment includes, but is not limited to, standby diesel generators, switchgear, UPSs, PDUs, AHUs, chillers, cooling towers, chemical treatment systems, pumps, motors, VFDs, and building automation systems.
Location: On-site position in Pilar, Buenos Aires Provincia, Argentina
Primary Duties:
- Develops creative approaches to keep operational costs to a minimum, improve efficiency, and implements new strategies for Mechanical, Electrical, and Fire Life Safety systems.
- Tests performance of electromechanical assemblies and electronic volt meters.
- Reads blueprints, schematics, diagrams, or technical orders to determine methods and sequences of processes.
- Inspects equipment for defects, leaks, and potential issues.
- Installs electrical/electronic parts and hardware in housings/assemblies with hand tools.
- Aligns, fits or assembles component parts using hand/power tools.
- Operates, monitors, maintains, and responds to abnormal conditions in Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Life Safety, Security Systems, Building Monitoring Systems, and control systems.
- Analyze systems to ensure best practice for internal/external customers.
- Provides feedback on effectiveness of existing standards and processes.
- Works with contractors and consultants to review quality assurance for all system expansions, corrections, and upgrades.
- Collaborates on the tracking and completing aggressive preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
- Collaborates on determining maintenance requirements for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire life safety systems, and security systems.
- Complete planned and ad-hoc preventive maintenance work assignments
- Conduct periodic inspections of building systems, i.e., HVAC, electrical distribution, maintain mechanical equipment rooms to ensure clean and safe conditions.
- Rapid response, investigation, and management of indoor emergency situations and air quality complaints
- Have a complete working knowledge of creating, closing, and tracking "work requests" (WR). Initiate or respond to work orders, follow-up and verify completion of work.
- Monitor performance/note deficiencies of service contractors and recommend changes as necessary.
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.
- Completion of documentation, notification, escalation, tracking and follow up of all incidents and requests.
Skills & Experience
- Working knowledge of electrical/mechanical systems
- MBO 2
- LV/HV authorized to switch Certificate (NEN3140-NEN3840)
- Mechanical and/or Electrical training/education, with particular focus in power;
- Must have or be able to complete Safety for Operational Supervisors training (Dutch: “Veiligheid gezondheid milieu Checklist Aannemers” Abbreviation: “VCA”) and OSHA 30 shortly after start of employment.
- Good verbal and written communication skills in English
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment, up to 40lbs.
- Ability to climb ladders and multiple flights of stairs to access elevated equipment
- Ability to stand for long periods of time in various work environments
- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and reach for equipment related tasks
- Basic physical fitness to respond quickly to emergency situations and navigate areas quickly
- Ability to move quickly and efficiently withing various work environments to troubleshoot issues or respond to emergencies.
- Good hand-eye coordination and dexterity for working with small components and connectors
- Clear vision, with or without correction, to perform tasks requiring attention to detail and precision while wearing safety glasses
- Ability to differentiate between color-coded warning signs, labels, and cables
- Ability to work in environments with a wide variety of temperatures inside a facility
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including extreme temperatures, rain, or snow
- Capability to work in environments with elevated noise levels while wearing hearing protection
- Possession of a valid driver’s license for work-related travel, as required
The role is a full-time position and will include business travel as needed to meet business demands but will likely be nominal.
