We are looking for an absolute go-getter to join our rapidly growing company as the Director of Data. This is a key leadership role on our Data team and will go to the person who demonstrates exceptional performance and continuous improvement. You will be directly responsible for leading our Data Architecture, Data Engineering and Data Science teams to deliver world class solutions that run our business today and scale for the future.
Technical knowledge in data engineering and data architecture, hands-on experience, leadership, communication and partnering skills are the absolute minimum requirements to be successful in this role.
Role and Responsibilities (read: All of this all the time)
Strategic Planning: Develop and execute a comprehensive Data strategy aligned with the organization's overall business objectives, identifying emerging technologies to drive innovation while minimizing cost.
Team Leadership: Hire, manage and mentor managers, assigning responsibilities, evaluating performance, ensuring accountability and fostering collaboration. Focus on continuous improvement through training and growth opportunities within the team based on merit.
Data Architecture and Delivery: Oversee the planning, implementation, and maintenance of Data infrastructure including data warehouse platform(s), data lake(s), transactional databases, pipelines, ETL, API, insights, ML and AI implementations..
Project Management: Lead the execution of Data projects and initiatives, ensuring timely delivery within budget and scope.
Stakeholder Communication: Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders and senior management proactively.
Performance Monitoring: Analyze Data operations to identify areas for improvement, track key performance indicators (KPIs).
Partnership: Build and maintain relationships with leaders across the organization to facilitate the highest level of performance and delivery.

Minimum Qualifications (read: You need more than this)
- Minimum 10 years hands-on experience in data engineering with a minimum of 6 years in a role with direct reports
- Experience creating and managing budgets of ~$4M
- Unimpeachable technical knowledge in Data Engineering and Data Architecture
- Demonstrable experience in AI using multiple LLMs
- Strong hands-on experience with data infrastructure technologies such as Airflow, Fivetran, Kafka, dbt, and modern data warehouses (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks, and Redshift).
- Proficiency in Python, SQL, and data modeling techniques.
- Deep understanding of data architecture, pipelines, warehousing, and real-time data streaming.
- Bachelor Degree or equivalent experience in Data Engineering or Computer Science

- 30 – 45 Min - Recruiter screening
- 90 Min - Interview #1 is a culture fit interview with some sanity checks of your skillset.
- 90 Min - Interview #2 is a technical interview to probe your knowledge. This role is not a hands-on technical role day-to-day but you need to be technically sound to lead technical people and especially to lead strategy.
- 90 Min - Interview #3 is a collaboration interview where you will meet with other leaders to see what working with you is like.
- 30 Min - Interview #4 is a small follow up for any clarifications for you and for us.
