We are seeking a highly skilled Automation Engineer to join our Engineering team in Oberlin, OH. The Automation Engineer designs programs and maintains automated and electrical systems. This role involves developing control systems, troubleshooting equipment, and collaborating across teams to deliver efficient, high-quality automation solutions. Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop automated systems that meet the specified project requirements.
  • Develop electrical systems and equipment, including designing electrical circuits, choosing electrical components, defining parameters of components, and designing panel layouts.
  • Responsible for programming and coding automated systems such as programmable logic controllers, human machine interfaces, motion controllers, and vision systems.
  • Responsible for testing and debugging the systems they design to ensure they operate as intended. This may involve conducting laboratory tests or simulating system behavior.
  • Responsible for communicating project status, progress, and any changes to stakeholders, including management and any other departments.
  • Responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting automated systems to ensure they continue to operate as intended.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to service personnel helping develop their skills.
  • Responsible for documenting projects including creating technical manuals, schematics, and component layout drawings.
  • Automation engineers often work closely with other teams, including sales, operations, procurement, and mechanical engineers to design and develop automated systems.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, skills, and abilities required)

  • Must hold at least a bachelor’s degree of science in a related field such as electrical engineering, automation engineering, or possess equivalent technical certifications.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent communication skills to effectively communicate with team members and other stakeholders.
  • Well-organized and able to manage multiple tasks and projects effectively.
  • Able to work well with others and build positive relationships with clients and other stakeholders.
  • Able to identify and resolve technical and electrical issues in a timely and effective manner.
  • Proficient in using computer software and technology to interface with industrial automation equipment.
  • Strong understanding of customer service principles and a commitment to delivering high-quality services to clients.

Preferred Skills

  • Strong understanding of electrical systems, control systems, automation technologies, and programming languages.
  • Knowledgeable in areas such as computer science, and robotics.
  • Able to analyze problems and find solutions to improve the efficiency and performance of automated systems.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, team members, and stakeholders with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical people and present their designs and solutions clearly and concisely.
  • Able to manage projects effectively, including developing project plans, schedules, and budgets.
  • Able to learn new technologies and techniques quickly while adapting to changes in the industry and find new ways to improve automated systems.
  • Possess keen attention to detail and be able to work with precision and accuracy including the ability to detect and correct errors in automated systems and ensure that systems meet performance and safety standards.
  • Creative and innovative and able to find new and innovative solutions to problems.
  • Able to think outside the box and find new ways to improve the performance of automated systems.
  • Knowledgeable about safety procedures and should be able to follow safety protocols to ensure a safe work environment.
