Project Engineer

The Project Engineer is responsible for the costing, planning, coordination, and execution of automation and mechanical system projects in high-tech greenhouse environments. This role works closely with clients, internal teams, and third-party vendors to deliver turnkey solutions on time and within budget. The ideal candidate will have experience in mechanical or electrical systems, strong project management capabilities, and a willingness to travel to client sites.

Responsibilities:
- Support the design, development, and implementation of automated systems within controlled environment operations (e.g., robotics, conveyor systems, irrigation systems, material handling systems).
- Review technical drawings, specifications, and system layouts for feasibility and functionality.
- Coordinate with CAD designers, procurement, and installation teams to ensure accurate execution.
- Participate in site visits to perform installation oversight, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
- Manage schedules, materials, and documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
- Communicate directly with clients and stakeholders to provide project updates and resolve technical issues.
- Ensure systems meet safety standards, environmental regulations, and client requirements.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment specifications, system documentation, and project outcomes.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, skills, and abilities required)
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field and at least 2 years of experience in project engineering, preferably in automation, agriculture, greenhouse systems, or environmental controls. Experience of 5 + years in project engineering, preferably in automation, agriculture, greenhouse systems, or environmental controls will be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Knowledge of mechanical design, control systems, or fluid handling preferred.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or other CAD tools.
- Understanding of PLC/SCADA systems a plus.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical schematics.
- Hands-on approach with a willingness to engage in fieldwork.
- Problem-solving mindset with attention to detail.
- Capable of managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, with the ability to perform complex costing and pricing calculations.
- Understanding of costing for equipment, labor, and transportation across multiple currencies.
- Experience with Project Management Software is a plus.
