The Director of Project Management will oversee all phases of project execution, including quoting, planning, installation, and commissioning of automated systems in controlled horticultural environments. This role requires strong cross-functional team leadership skills, quoting and estimation knowledge including technical project delivery, and customer relationship management. Additionally, this position oversees both Project Management and Quoting operations, including direct management of Project Engineer(s). The Director must possess the ability to perform all functions of the Project Engineer role at a high level, while also serving as a process developer and continuous improvement leader. This role demands strong business acumen, critical thinking, and collaboration with Finance, Operations, and Sales teams to align technical execution with strategic business goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Project Management department, including hiring, training, and supervising project managers, coordinators, and engineers.
  • Oversee project quoting and estimation processes to ensure accuracy, competitiveness, and profitability.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to Project Engineer(s), ensuring high performance and ongoing process improvement.
  • Function as a process developer and continuous improvement manager for both project execution and quoting functions.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Engineering, Manufacturing, Finance, and Field Services to align project scope, timelines, deliverables, and financial objectives.
  • Manage a portfolio of projects ranging in size from $10K to $20M, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget.
  • Maintain strong vendor and customer relationships, function as a senior point of contact for escalated issues and project risks.
  • Establish and maintain project management best practices, KPIs, and continuous improvement processes.
  • Demonstrate strong Excel proficiency and oversee complex data modeling and analysis in support of quoting and forecasting.
  • Support forecasting and pipeline planning with executive and sales leadership teams.
  • Track project budgets, timelines, and contractual obligations, ensuring delivery within scope and financial goals.
  • Ensure all projects adhere to safety standards, company policies, and industry regulations.
  • Apply a solid understanding of P&L to make financially sound project and quoting decisions.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, skills, and abilities required)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Minimum 8 years of project management experience with at least 3 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Strong experience with quoting and cost estimation in technical or industrial project environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and improve processes and teams.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and quoting tools.
  • Strong customer relationship and vendor management skills.
  • Experience in the automation, horticulture, or greenhouse industries strongly preferred.
  • PMP certification or equivalent is a plus.
  • Proficient in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Smartsheet, or similar).
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and organizational skills.
  • Strong business acumen and understanding of financial statements, especially the P&L.
